NitroCapt launch Sweden’s first domestic production of mineral nitrogen fertilizer in almost two decades.
The climate-friendly production of our SUNIFER® fertilizer needs no remotely produced feedstocks. Therefore, this marks more than a technological breakthrough — it’s a bold step towards national food security, independence from volatile global supply chains, and a more resilient Europe.
Today, the EU still imports around 30% of mineral fertilizers from Russia and the European production of nitrogen fertilizer is totally dependent on imports of remotely produced fossil gas. Sweden, until now, relies entirely on imports of mineral nitrogen fertilizer, making us vulnerable in geopolitically unstable situations.
NitroCapt’s Founder and CEO, Gustaf Forsberg—himself a farmer—puts it plainly:
“Nitrogen fertilizer isn’t just a commodity—it’s a necessity for about 50% of all food we grow. Without a secure supply, we can’t secure our harvests and with that the possibility to feed our population.
